Making the Case:  Tools to Advance Personal and Professional Fulfillment in GIM

Wednesday, April 19, 2017
8:00 a.m. - 5:00 p.m.

Washington Hilton | Washington, DC

Leaders in GIM are aware increasingly of the need to implement evidence-based strategies that improve the clinical practice environment, mitigate stress, and facilitate career satisfaction. Physicians may be pressured to adapt to a chaotic work environment at the expense of burn out, disruption to their academic progression and/or home life, and personal satisfaction. Once leaders learn how to assess the work life wellness of general internists, what are the next steps to implementing programs that enhance wellness and enhance faculty retention and recruitment into our profession?

Whether you are starting on the path of leadership or have been a leader for many years, come join us and let’s learn together. This year’s Institute will feature plenary speakers and breakout sessions on the tools needed to advance both personal and professional fulfillment in GIM, including:

Novel Methods of Physician Practice
Faculty Recruitment and Retention Strategies
Fortifying Clinical Practices
Rapid Response Strategies to Faculty in Distress
Thriving through Transition – How to Prepare/Assist Faculty with New Programs
Creating Urgency and Influencing Senior Leaders

ACLGIM is excited to announce the following speakers will share their experience and expertise developing and deploying these tools:

  • Deborah Burnet, MD, MA, Chief, General Internal Medicine, Medicine Vice-Chair for Faculty Development, University of Chicago
  • T. Shawn Caudill, MD, MSPH, Professor and Chief, Division of General Internal Medicine and Women’s Health, University of Kentucky
  • Jeannette G. Clough, President and Chief Executive Officer, Mount Auburn Hospital
  • Mindy J. Fain, MD, Division Chief, Geriatrics, General Internal Medicine and Palliative Medicine, University of Arizona College of Medicine
  • Jeannine Z Engel, MD, FACP, Associate Professor of Medicine, Physician Advisor, Billing Compliance, University of Utah Health Sciences
  • Mark Linzer, MD, Director, Division of General Internal Medicine, Hennepin County Medical Center
  • Valerie E. Stone, MD, MPH, Chair, Department of Medicine, Mount Auburn Hospital and Charles S. Davidson Professor of Medicine, Harvard Medical School
  • Elizabeth R. Trowbridge, MD, Division Head, General Internal Medicine, University of Wisconsin School of Medicine and Public Health

The Institute is designed as a resource for Leaders in General Internal Medicine, including Division Chiefs, Hospital Medicine Directors, Associate Chiefs, Section Heads, Administrators, and other leaders in divisions of GIM and Hospital Medicine. Leaders are encouraged to attend, actively participate, and consider bringing along a colleague from their institution who would benefit from attendance and leadership development. Chiefs from other IM sections, administrators, and anyone with a leadership role within GIM divisions are also encouraged to participate. We look forward to welcoming you to this community.
