Introduction
SGIM’s advocacy efforts promote and support policies that improve patient care, strengthen education and training, and promote researchers and their work forwarding general internal medicine.
Our Advocacy Agenda
SGIM’s advocacy efforts focus on issues critical to general internal medicine’s future or on which SGIM offers a unique perspective. Each year, SGIM develops an advocacy agenda outlining priority focus areas and defining the issues on which the SGIM Health Policy Committee, its staff, and consultants will work for the following year.
Health Policy Committee
The Health Policy Committee advocates for three major areas: fair and equitable Medicare reimbursement policies, adequate funding for health professions training, and support for health services research.
Federal Legislation & Regulations
SGIM regularly sends or signs letters from other organizations that help our members affect federal legislation and regulatory policies.
