Biography
Steven Haist graduated from the University of Kentucky (UK) College of Medicine (1981) and completed his internal medicine residency at UK. For 21 years at UK, he served in various roles including course and clerkship director and Internal Medicine Residency Program Director. Also, he started the standardized patient program in the late 1980s. Over 14 years, he wrote USMLE Step 1 questions and then joined the NBME (2008); as Vice-President of Test Development Services he oversaw the production of USMLE and 120 other examinations. Dr. Haist returned to UK as the inaugural Northern Kentucky Campus Associate Dean (2018). After five years, he returned to Lexington as the Associate Dean for Curriculum and Assessment. He has 75 peer-reviewed publications and is one of two editors for the Clinician’s Pocket Reference (12th edition). Dr. Haist has been an active SGIM member and was TEACH faculty at inception and now with MedEd Scholarship.
