Biography
David C. Giovannini, MD, FACP, is an Associate Professor of Clinical Internal Medicine at Prisma Health–University of South Carolina School of Medicine in Columbia, SC. A native of Hickory, N.C., he earned his Bachelor of Science in Textile Engineering from NC State University. After two years working as a process engineer, he decided to pursue a career in medicine and was accepted to the University of South Carolina School of Medicine, earning his Doctor of Medicine in 2014. Dr. Giovannini completed his internal medicine residency training at Prisma Health – USC in Columbia and served as chief resident prior to joining the faculty. He is currently an Associate Program Director for the Internal Medicine Residency Program. As an educator, he is focused on helping his learners develop solid clinical reasoning skills in both the inpatient and outpatient settings and was selected as the Teacher of the Year by the internal medicine residents in 2019, 2021, and 2022. He is a member of both AOA and GHHS. He has been active in the Society of General Internal Medicine since first attending the regional meeting as an associate member. He has served on the SSGIM Leadership and Planning Committee since 2019 and was a co-leader of the precourse for the 2023 meeting in New Orleans. At the national level, he completed the SGIM TEACH Certificate Program in 2022. He is also a Fellow of the American College of Physicians. His clinical interests include Point of Care Ultrasound, and he has served as an instructor at local CME events hosted by the USC SOM Ultrasound Institute as well as nationally through the American College of Physicians and continues to help lead the ultrasound curriculum for IM residents and students at Prisma Health – Midlands.
