Biography

“He built a track for residents who want to become clinician-educators — and he’s been studying how to do it better ever since.”

Dr. Kwan’s work sits at the precise intersection of this program’s goals: how do you develop the next generation of teacher-scholars in hospital medicine? As co-director of the UCSD third-year medicine clerkship and associate director of the Residency as Clinician Educators (RACE) Track, he designs the systems that shape how learners transition into academic careers. His research on curriculum development, active learning, and the pipeline into internal and hospital medicine means he’s not just teaching you to teach he’s teaching you based on evidence. Add his leadership in SHM’s Fellowship Committee and his role as CDIM President, and you have someone deeply wired into the national conversation about where academic medicine is headed.
