Nearly fifty years ago, SGIM was founded by physicians who believed in an academic field worth building. Now it’s our turn to make sure that the field rises to meet current challenges and opportunities.
Proud to be GIM: Empowering the Next Generation of Leaders is our signature 50th anniversary campaign—and an opportunity for every member to help shape what comes next. We want to make sure that talented trainees and early-career physicians have the support, opportunities, and resources they need to choose a career in academic GIM, thrive in it, and become its next generation of leaders. That means providing scholarships and access to the SGIM Annual Meeting. It means investing in career development, mentorship, and leadership training. It means opening doors for the physicians who will carry GIM forward for the next 50 years.
Our goal is $500,000 by June 2028. In just the first four days of the campaign at SGIM’s 2026 Annual Meeting, more than 100 members made donations. We have already received donations totaling more than $27,000 – with gifts ranging from $5 to $10,000. This isn’t a campaign about a few people making large gifts. It is about all members making a commitment to invest in the future of GIM.
We have spent 50 years building this treasured community. Now we have a chance to give the next generation a reason—and the opportunity—to be proud to be GIM.
If you’re proud to be GIM, help someone else feel that pride by giving to the Proud-to-be-GIM campaign. Invest in the next generation. Help us build the future of GIM—together!
