SGIM is pleased to announce the launch of the 2026 Council Election for eligible voters (Full and Emeritus Members).
This year’s slate features outstanding candidates representing institutions across the United States—leaders who reflect the strength, breadth, and impact of our General Internal Medicine community.
Casting your vote is a meaningful way to support colleagues who are dedicating their time, expertise, and vision to advancing the Society and building on its strong foundation.
Eligible members will receive voting instructions by email. The election closes on March 25, 2026, at 11:59 p.m. Eastern.

Rita Lee, MD is a Professor and Associate Division Head for Education in the Division of General Internal Medicine at the University of Colorado School of Medicine

Patrick G. O’Connor, MD, MPH, is the Dan Adams and Amanda Adams Professor of General Medicine and Chief, Section of General Internal Medicine at Yale School of Medicine

Mohan (Mo) Nadkarni, MD, is the Chief of the Division of General, Geriatric and Palliative Medicine and Harry T. Peters Jr. Endowed Professor of Medicine at the UVA School of Medicine

Michael Barnett, MD, is the Sorenson Family Provost’s Professor of Health Services Policy and Practice at the Brown University School of Public Health and practices primary care at Brigham and Women’s Hospital
