New England Leadership Nominations

The New England Leadership Board is seeking nominations for the elected position of President-Elect, Secretary Treasurer-Elect, Membership Chair/Elect,  Associate Member, and Chair-elect for Diversity, Equity and Inclusion. A major focus for the board is to plan the regional meeting and build SGIM leadership. The qualifications for candidacy primarily include a history of participation in SGIM activities at the regional level. We are seeking to identify candidates from a range of institutions in the New England region.

The duties of these offices are as follows:

The President may elect to appoint a Meeting Chairperson to assist with the planning and execution of the annual regional meeting, as needed. During their third year, as Past-President, they serve as Chair of the Leadership Nominating Committee and advisor to the regional activities.

In addition, the Membership Chair serves as the regional liaison to the national Membership Committee. They work extensively on the Institutional Champions program, which is a recent installment to all SGIM regions.

Associate Member: The Associate Member is a trainee (resident or fellow) who will help plan the regional meeting and develop strategies to make SGIM more attractive to other associate members (including medical students). The position requires a two (2) year commitment that includes monthly, one-hour conference calls, attendance at the regional meeting, and involvement with planning sub-committees (e.g. Mentoring Program).

Chair-elect for Diversity, Equity and Inclusion: 2 year term: To further SGIM’s commitment to DEI, the regional DEI Chair will work with regional leadership, the regional meeting planning committee, and national SGIM leadership in DEI and anti-racism to define opportunities and implement DEI initiatives. Examples of opportunities for DEI work in the region include: 1) Collaborate with the Regional Membership chair to broaden and diversify membership outreach, which may include SNMA, FQHCs, deans of DEI from local medical programs; 2) Develop Regional meeting programming that addresses DEI, which may include DEI goals for the meeting, including DEI on judging rubric or new category, diversify judging pool, call for invited workshops on DEI, anti-racism and advocacy, DEI interest groups, or creation of a DEI award. The Chair’s other creative ideas are welcome in this new position. Commitment: Attend 1 hour monthly regional planning meetings. There may be several meetings with other Regional DEI chairs as well.
