The purpose of the SGIM Geriatrics Commission is to:

  1. Highlight the critical need for a healthcare workforce that is trained to deliver high quality, high-value care for older adults across settings,
  2. Train the trainers to educate the next generation of general internists to care for older adults and those with serious illness,
  3. Collaborate with the other SGIM commissions, interest groups, and board to embed geriatrics principles of care into all relevant content developed for SGIM members and,
  4. Advocate for SGIM to lead the way in supporting health policy to enhance care for older adults.
