The field of hospital medicine has emerged over the last two decades as crucial to the management of hospitalized patients. The role of academic hospitalists within academic medicine is currently being actively defined and continually reframed within increasingly complex hospitals and healthcare systems. The purpose of the Commission is to advance the needs of academic hospitalists with a focus on professional development, including scholarship, promotion, career satisfaction, networking, and advocacy for the fields of internal medicine, medical education, and research. The Commission coordinates hospital medicine events at the annual meeting and supports the Academic Hospitalist Academy (AHA).
