Major updates in health policy across education, research and clinical practice in 2025-2026. This session summarizes both major policy updates as well as the work in which the Health Policy Committee has been engaged, in efforts to better serve our patients and members. This is a recorded session from the SGIM 2026 Annual Meeting.
Clinical Practice:
Access to health care, with focus on minority and traditionally marginalized populations. This includes Medicaid, the VA, the Health Insurance Marketplace and other programs. Support for primary care and cognitive care. This focuses on Medicare policy, including Medicare Advantage.
Education:
Primary care training programs, including Public Health Service Act Title VII funding and Medicare GME policy. Workforce updates, including policies impacting international medical graduates.
Research:
Health services research and primary care research, focused on The Agency for Healthcare Quality and Research. National Institutes of Health funding for health disparities and minority health research, and for programs to support physician scientist training such as the clinical and translational science awards.
