The SGIM Health Equity Commission (HEC), formally the Disparities Task Force, was formed by the SGIM Council at its June 2001 meeting to continue the Society’s focus on Disparities in Health and Health Care following the 2001 Annual Meeting.
The Health Equity Commission's (HEC) purpose is to serve as the chief advocate for SGIM's health equity related interests in education, research, and provision of clinical care as the Society strives to achieve better health for everyone. We strive to dismantle racism, and all structural inequities, optimize clinical care, and promote social justice, especially for vulnerable and marginalized populations through education, advocacy, research and scholarship. By engaging the clinical workforce, researchers, educators, and policy makers and collaborating with other committees, commissions, and interest groups on health equity related initiatives, we promote better health for all.
