SGIM's Leadership in Health Policy Program (LEAHP) aims to accomplish the following:

  • To develop SGIM members who will become who are effective and active health policy advocates and local health policy experts, leaders, and teachers;
  • To offer health policy career development resources and opportunities to all SGIM members; and
  • To develop an expanding, national cadre of Health Policy Committee (HPC) members and broaden engagement in the Society’s health policy efforts. 

​The LEAHP program is one of the first national health policy career development programs of its kind. As part of a larger effort to expand career development opportunities for SGIM members, LEAHP 2018 is a year-long program (starting at the 2018 SGIM annual meeting through the 2019 annual meeting) focused on federal health policy knowledge and advocacy skills aligned with SGIM’s core missions.  LEAHP's learning objectives include:

  • Knowing the key structures and functions of the US health care system;
  • Understanding the key players and processes in the federal health policy-making; 
  • Ability to critically evaluate healthcare delivery and economic models and to propose needed changes and/or additions;
  • Ability to explain the impact of health care reform on the practice of medicine, education, and research; and
  • Ability to advocate effectively advocacy with policy-makers.

 

How to Apply (SGIM Members):

  • On the SGIM.org website, click on Members Login. (Username and Password are required for login)
  • Click on "Award Nomination and Applications" and then “Click here to nominate a Member”.
  • Click “Add” to view options.
  • Select the LEAHP application from the drop-down menu.
    • Complete all required documents for the application
    • Make sure to submit all documents as PDF file

Apply for LEAHP

Participants will be chosen via a competitive application process. The LEAHP fee for the 2018-2019 program is $850 for SGIM members (plus registration and travel fees for two annual meetings and 2019 Hill Day in Washington, DC)
