Dataset Summary
The Midlife in the U.S. (MIDUS) study is a national longitudinal cohort study examining physical and mental health, psychosocial factors, and aging across adulthood. MIDUS integrates survey data with biomarker, cognitive, and daily diary components to provide a multidimensional understanding of health and well-being.
The study includes an oversample of African Americans in Milwaukee as well as a parallel study conducted in Japan, enabling cross-cultural and disparities-focused research.
Caveats
- Some datasets and biomarker components require a Data Use Agreement (DUA).
- Longitudinal follow-up intervals vary across waves.
- As with many cohort studies, attrition over time may affect representativeness.
