Overview
Dataset Summary
The Medicaid Data (T-MSIS) system contains comprehensive claims data on Medicaid and Childrenโs Health Insurance Program (CHIP) beneficiaries across the United States. The data system was overhauled in 2015โ2016 and renamed the Transformed Medicaid Statistical Information System (T-MSIS). These population-based claims data include detailed information on enrollment, utilization, diagnoses, procedures, and costs. Publicly available state-level summary data can be accessed through the Medicaid data portal.
Caveats
- Access to individual-level claims data requires a Data Use Agreement (DUA) and Institutional Review Board (IRB) approval.
- The approval process may take several months.
- Data management and cleaning can be complex due to state-level variation in reporting and data structure.
- Substantial data access fees may apply.
Examples of Outcomes Examined
- Impact of policy changes on utilization and outcomes
- Cost of care analyses
- Healthcare utilization patterns among Medicaid beneficiaries
- Disparities in access and outcomes
