Biography

Dr. Toby Terwilliger is an Assistant Professor in the Division of Hospital Medicine at Emory University School of Medicine and a hospitalist at Grady Memorial Hospital. He earned his medical degree from NYU, where he led the Health Policy Interest Group and co-founded a student chapter of Physicians for a National Health Program (PNHP). He completed his Internal Medicine–Pediatrics residency at Rutgers New Jersey Medical School, where he was also Chief Resident. Dr. Terwilliger serves on PNHP’s board of directors and chairs its Georgia chapter. He participated in the inaugural cohort of Emory’s Health Equity Advocacy Course, completing a capstone on Medicaid expansion in Georgia, and he later co-directed the course during its second iteration. He completed the SGIM LEAHP scholar program in 2023-2024. His work has been recognized at his institution with the Emory at Grady Best Colleague Award (2022) and the Hospital Medicine Advocacy Award (2024).
