Biography

Maelys J. Amat, MD, MBA is Associate Medical Director at MassHealth (Massachusetts Medicaid), Instructor in Medicine at Harvard Medical School (HMS), and a primary care physician in the Division of General Medicine at Beth Israel Deaconess Medical Center (BIDMC).  Dr. Amat completed her internal medicine residency and chief medical residency at BIDMC, where her scholarship addressed healthcare disparities in vulnerable patient populations. As chief resident, she was offered the Arnold Tofias/Leo Condakes Quality Scholarship and joined a team investigating diagnostic errors in primary care through an AHRQ R18 grant. As a faculty member, she was appointed Director of Social Justice in the Office of Graduate Medical Education and served as the Medical Director for Text Messaging Initiatives in the Office of Population Health. In 2024, she accepted a full-time position as Associate Medical Director at MassHealth, where she oversees quality and utilization for health plans who care for dual eligible (Medicare-Medicaid) members.
