Biography
Dr. Goyal is a Clinical Assistant Professor in the Division of Primary Care and Population Health in the Department of Medicine at Stanford. He completed medical school and residency at UC San Diego and a general internal medicine fellowship at Johns Hopkins.
He has an interest in improving the quality of life for low-income populations. This led to his research focus on socio-political issues as well as low-cost interventions such as meditation. He published the first quantitative evidence on the effects of selling one’s kidney on those who sell their kidneys. He ran a large clinical trial to see if knowledge-based interventions can reduce corruption in the delivery of basic health, education, and governance services to the population of over 100 villages in India. He has been interviewed by over 100 national and international media organizations, including the New York Times and National Public Radio.
Recognizing bias in our understanding of knowledge and perspectives is a ubiquitous challenge for society. Reducing this bias can improve the lives of everyone. As an internist, he enjoys taking care of patients from all backgrounds. As an educator, he strives to model compassionate care for all patients for his trainees.
