Biography
Luci K. Leykum, MD, MBA, MSc, FACP, SFHM, is the Principal Investigator for the Elizabeth Dole Center of Excellence for Veteran and Caregiver Research, the Chief Clinical Officer for Harbor Health, and an affiliate Professor of Medicine at Dell Medical School at the University of Texas at Austin.
Dr. Leykum pursued a joint MD/MBA at Columbia University. She completed residency training at the Columbia-Presbyterian Medical Center, joining the Columbia faculty in 2002. From 2004 – 2019, she was a faculty member at the University of Texas Health Science Center at San Antonio, serving in several administrative roles, including Division Chief of General and Hospital Medicine and Associate Dean for Clinical Affairs. From 2019 – 2022, she served as Associate Chair for Clinical Innovation and then as Executive Associate Chair of the Department of Medicine at Dell Medical School in the University of Texas at Austin. In 2022, she joined Harbor Health, a new healthcare delivery organization in Austin, Texas.
Dr. Leykum has received funding from the Department of Veterans Affairs, the Patient Centered Outcomes Research Institute, the Josiah Macy Jr. Foundation, and the National Institutes of Health. She is formerly a Senior Deputy Editor of the Journal of Hospital Medicine and a Deputy Editor of the Journal of General Internal Medicine, and now serves on the Editorial Board of the Annals of Internal Medicine. She is a former Chair of the SHM Research Committee, co-Chair of the SGIM Academic Hospitalist Task Force, and member of the SGIM Council. Finally, she served as a member of the National Academies of Science, Engineering, and Medicine ad hoc committee on Implementing High Quality Primary Care in the United States.
