Biography

Kriya Patel is currently a PGY-3 in internal medicine at the University of Michigan. She will start her HRSA T32 Primary Care Investigators Training in Chronic Disease & Health Disparities (PITCH) Fellowship at the University of Chicago this summer. She received a BA in Biological Basis of Behavior from the University of Pennsylvania and was awarded the 2016 Penn Presidential Engagement Prize, a $150,000 grant, to create and implement a pilot program enrolling incarcerated women in Medicaid prior to release from the local jail. After expanding the program to the men’s jails, she decided to pursue a career in incarceration healthcare and graduated with an MD from the University of Cincinnati College of Medicine in 2022. Her research focuses on health and incarceration with an emphasis on chronic health conditions, substance use, and healthcare access.
