Biography

Chris Sankey, MD, SFHM, FACP, is an Associate Professor of Medicine at Yale School of Medicine and is the current director of Yale’s academic Program in Hospital Medicine. He graduated from the Ohio State University College of Medicine and served as a resident and chief resident in the Yale Traditional Medicine Residency Program from 2002 to 2006. For the last 18 years, Dr. Sankey has been a hospitalist and medical educator at Yale New Haven Hospital. His work has focused on inpatient clinical deterioration, clinical case writing and publication, educational leadership and innovation, mentorship, sponsorship, and coaching. He was an Associate Program Director for the traditional medicine residency program from 2017-2022. In addition to directing the academic hospitalist group in the Yale School of Medicine, Dr. Sankey is currently the co-chief of Yale’s Hospital Medicine Firm, program director of the Adult Hospital Medicine Fellowship Program, and faculty director of the resident elective in hospital medicine. He is currently a member of the Society of General Internal Medicine (SGIM) Academic Hospitalist Commission and has previously served on the Society of Hospital Medicine (SHM) Academic Hospitalist Committee. Dr. Sankey is involved in multiple initiatives on diversity, equity, and inclusion within and outside of Yale, and is a physician coach for Yale medical students.
