Biography

Alyssa Stephany, MD, MS, SFHM, PCC (ICF), is a Med-Peds Hospitalist and is currently the Founder and CEO of A.I.M. (Authentic, Innovative, Manageable) Coaching & Consulting. After tripping into leadership roles, the way many physicians do, she realized that the most effective solutions to healthcare challenges stem from combining the clinical expertise of frontline professionals with innovative thinking and operationalizing in a manageable way, both at work and in life. This concept formed the basis of her own leadership, her academic mentorship, and now underpins her current work.

She completed her Internal Medicine-Pediatrics Residency at Duke University Medical Center and subsequently remained as Pediatric Chief Resident. During her time at Duke, she collaborated with individuals she met through the Academic Hospitalist Academy (AHA) to draft her first-ever Business Plan to become the inaugural “Med-Peds Hospitalist” at Duke. She held various leadership positions and spearheaded Health System-wide initiatives at Duke. In February 2016, she assumed the role of Chief of Pediatric Hospital Medicine at Children’s Wisconsin/Medical College of Wisconsin where she successfully grew the program to 50 hospitalists, established a community program, and improved clinical outcomes. In 2020, she joined the Children’s Mercy of Kansas City Executive Team, reporting directly to the Executive Vice President and Physician in Chief. In this capacity, she served as the Director of Physician-Provider Operational Support for all physicians and providers. During her tenure, she developed Physician-Provider Support Programs aimed at enhancing engagement and well-being, encompassing the areas of Quality & Safety, DEI, Patient Experience, Internal Leadership Coaching, Leadership Curriculum, Workforce planning, Team Restoration/Team Engagements, and more.

Her experiential expertise is supported by a Master’s degree in Healthcare Leadership and Management from UT Dallas. She also is a Professional Physician Coach, with her coaching certificate through UC Berkeley and Professional Coaching Certificate credentialing through International Coaching Federation. One of her greatest passions is studying the outcomes of the programs she creates, which you can see in her academic publications.

She is an active participant in the Society of Hospital Medicine, including being a facilitator for the leadership academies, Coach for Capstone, Facilitator for AHA level 2; in Chapter Leadership (past president of KS); on the Executive Committee for Med-Peds SIG; and on Academic Committee for many years. She firmly believes that she wouldn’t be where she is today without the incredible support of her colleagues from her SHM network.

She resides with her husband, daughter and son Overland Park, Kansas. Through self-reflection, hard work, and prioritization, she has learned (and is still learning) to enjoy time with her family and savor precious moments, whether it’s a car ride to school, RVing on the weekends, sailing, or hanging out by the pool, or dancing in her free time.
