House Ways & Means Hearing Discusses Healthcare Workforce Shortages
The House Ways & Means Subcommittee on Health held a hearing entitled, “Advancing the Next Generation of America’s Health Care Workforce,” on February 24. During opening statements, Acting Chair of the Subcommittee, Rep. Adrian Smith (R-NE), highlighted the looming physician shortage, especially in rural areas, and the importance of graduate medical education (GME) in addressing these gaps. He emphasized the need for reforms to increase rural training opportunities and better address chronic disease prevention in physician education.
