Advocacy Matters – Here’s What You Can Do

Congress is returning home from Washington for August recess – the first time members will have uninterrupted time in their states and districts since the start of the 119th Congress. So far this session, Congress passed President Trump’s One Big Beautiful Bill Act but has not accomplished much more legislatively.

Upon their return to Washington in September, Congress will have to address fiscal year 2026 appropriations bills before the start of the new fiscal year on October 1 and assess whether they can and want to advance bipartisan health legislation. Congress may consider major changes to federal health programs, like those funded by the National Institutes of Health (NIH), the Agency for Healthcare Research and Quality (AHRQ), and the Health Resources and Services Administration (HRSA). These programs are increasingly at risk of being eliminated or facing harmful cuts.
