Health Policy News: January 24, 2024

Just in the nick of time, Congress managed to avoid a partial government shutdown by moving forward with another short-term “two-tiered” continuing resolution (CR) that will now expire on March 1 and March 8. The Senate voted 77-18 and the House voted 314-108 in favor of extending the current funding deadlines. While a slim majority of Republicans voted in favor of extending funding, House Speaker Mike Johnson (R-LA) did have to rely on votes from Democrats to pass the CR before the deadline as House Freedom Caucus members have been angry at the Speaker for walking back his promise to not allow more temporary funding measures.
