House Considers FY26 Funding Package This Week to End Partial Government Shutdown
On Friday, January 30, the Senate passed a 6-bill “minibus” to fund several federal departments, including the Department of Health and Human Services (HHS), for the remainder of FY 26 and the Department of Homeland Security (DHS) for two weeks, to allow Congress to negotiate additional provisions related to immigration policy. Because the House of Representatives still needs to approve this package, the departments funded by these bills officially shut down at midnight on January 31. The House came back into session on Monday, February 2, and they still have significant procedural and political hurdles to climb to end the shutdown in the next few days.
