The JGIM Editorial Board is currently looking to fill several vacancies, including:

  • One Editorial Board Chairperson

  • One International Member

  • One Associate Member

  • Three–four At-Large Members

We are particularly seeking representation from the following fields/areas of expertise: minority health and health disparities, medical education, women’s medicine, systematic reviews, clinical care, VA health, and health services research. Previous experience with JGIM, service on the boards of other medical journals, or experience as a prior editor of a journal will be prioritized.

Position Eligibility

  • Editorial Board Chairperson: Applicants should be senior SGIM members with an in-depth knowledge of medical journal publishing and the unique history of JGIM and SGIM. The Chairperson works with the Editors-in-Chief to set the agenda for Editorial Board calls throughout the year.

  • Associate Member: Applicants must be a current SGIM associate member with a strong interest in medical journals.

  • International Member: Applicants must be a current SGIM international member.

All members of the JGIM Editorial Board must be SGIM members in good standing.

Editorial Board Responsibilities

Editorial Board members are expected to:

  • Meet quarterly by telephone and in person/virtually at each SGIM annual meeting

  • Serve as advisors to the JGIM Editors for strategic planning about the content and operations of the Journal, including regular evaluation of the Journal and its stewardship and review of the Editors’ annual report on accomplishments, problems, and plans

  • Serve as advisors to the JGIM Editors and SGIM Council on how to ensure the editorial independence of the Journal

  • Assist the Editors in reviewing manuscripts, at the discretion of the Editors

  • Provide input to the SGIM Council regarding major decisions and how such decisions could affect the content, operations, and editorial independence of the Journal

Term and Timeline

Successful candidates will be announced in late March 2026 and will join the board as of May 2026 for a three-year term (ending May 2029). The Editorial Board will meet in person at SGIM26 in Washington, DC. All board members are invited to attend; the agenda consists of reports from the current editorial team and SpringerNature, JGIM’s publisher. Please note that travel to/from SGIM meetings is not reimbursed by the Society.
