Apply Now: Journal of General Internal Medicine Editorial Fellowship 2026
The Journal of General Internal Medicine (JGIM) editorial fellowship is designed to gain a deeper understanding of the peer review, editorial, and academic writing process. Participants in this editorial fellowship will develop skills in editing and reviewing manuscripts and will have opportunities for professional networking that will enhance their academic careers. The curriculum will be competency-based, rather than time-based. Those successfully completing the fellowship will be offered positions as Associate Editors at JGIM.
The remote learning program will allow fellows to continue their local responsibilities. Each Editorial Fellow will be paired with a mentor who is a current JGIM Editor. Fellows will be matched to mentors with similar interests and/or backgrounds. Fellows will receive training on how to do effective peer review and will work with their mentors to learn how to manage submissions to JGIM. All fellows will participate in a curriculum designed to enhance skills in scientific writing and editing as well as learn about the publishing process. Fellows will have opportunities to participate in editorial team conferences. Additionally, those interested in digital media will have the opportunity to become involved with JGIM’s Digital and Social Media editorial group.
This program will assist in the growth, development, and sustainable advancement of individuals’ academic career through working closely with the JGIM editorial staff. Fellows will have the opportunity to connect with experienced writers, the JGIM associate editorial cadre, the JGIM Editorial Board, and other accomplished SGIM members.
Fellows need to have completed either an MD and residency training or a PhD – residents, medical students, and PhD candidates are not eligible. Applicants are encouraged to attend the 2027 SGIM Annual Meeting in Seattle, WA, May 5-8, 2027. Travel and registration expenses are not included in this fellowship and must be paid on your own. There is no honorarium available for this fellowship.
