Clinical Updates in Diabetes Care

Course Description

This is a recorded session from the SGIM 2025 Annual Meeting in Florida.

Diabetes is one of the most prevalent chronic conditions managed in primary care and we believe there is a broad interest among academic internists in learning about relevant clinical updates.  Presenters utilize active learning strategies to engage learners in understanding the impact and relevance of the latest literature to influence their clinical practice. The session is divided into five brief clinical vignettes, each focused on a different common management question faced by primary care clinicians every day in the care of patients with type 2 diabetes. Each vignette will have a practical management question posed and active learning strategies.

Learning Objectives
  1. Discuss the results of two studies evaluating options for second-line therapy for type-2 diabetes
  2. Describe how effective lifestyle counseling around time-restricted eating can improve body weight and glycemic control outcomes for type-2 diabetes
  3. Utilize a framework to inform evidence-based selection of 2nd line agents for type-2 diabetes
  4. Describe the effect of SGLT2i on MASLD/MASH
