Climate change threatens planetary health and human well-being. This session reviews the most informative practice-changing evidence, guidelines, and policies on the health-related drivers and impacts of climate change in the previous two years. Given the nature of climate change to impact those who are least likely to have contributed to it, and least able to respond to it, additional time is spent highlighting potential inequities and related social determinants of health. Participants will be empowered with the latest evidence to provide better clinical care to patients potentially at risk of experiencing climate-related health effects, educate patients and learners on climate-related health risks, advocate for improved health system activity within climate-actionable areas, and to identify areas to address to mitigate to adapt to future changes in the rapidly evolving health-climate ecosystem.
- Critically review recent evidence regarding the health impacts of climate change, with attion to vulnerable populations and related social determinants of health
- Discuss the changes in the environment related to air pollution, heat, extreme weather events and other manifestations of climate change to medical conditions and health harms
- Identify systems-level contributions and responses to climate change, particularly related to carbon footprint and resilience to system-level challenges
