Course Description
This is a recorded session from the SGIM 2024 Annual Meeting in Boston.

Perioperative medicine and medical consultation are important aspects of the routine practice of general internal medicine. However, many medical residents, hospitalists, and senior internists feel unprepared and uncomfortable in their role as medical consultants to high-risk patients before surgery. This annual review is intended to meet this need and provide pertinent new perioperative literature that impacts patient care. This session focuses on key areas within perioperative and consultative medicine, including cardiovascular care, pulmonary risk, hematologic management, and other aspects of perioperative care. Publications identified by a comprehensive literature review. Each paper is presented within the context of a patient care scenario, and practical advice will be provided on applying the findings to patient care.

  2. Apply innovations in perioperative medicine to patient care
  3. Educate patients with chronic diseases how to manage their surgical risk best
  4. Recall system resources to provide optimal care for perioperative patients
