As the proportion of older adults increases, providing up-to-date and quality care is very important to the general internists, who provide the bulk of their primary care. This session reviews important advances in the clinical care of older adults published in the previous year. The session will include advances in diagnosing and managing geriatric syndromes, multimorbidity, and care systems. Chronic disease treatment trials focused on older adults or with a significant proportion of older adults are also included. The strength of the evidence will be discussed, as well as the potential impact the work could have on current clinical practice and education.
Learning Objectives
- Critically appraise a selection of the latest research in caring for older adults and end-of-life care
- Identify new evidence-based understandings and evolutions of knowledge that should affirm or change current practice
- Assimilate and advocate for these new understandings and evolutions in knowledge into the delivery of high-value, evidence-based care for older adults
- Identify and adapt innovations in health systems into existing local systems of care for older adults based on evidence for their efficacy, feasibility, and cost-effectiveness
