Special Symposia:  Advocate for Health Policy in Your State: With Whom, to Whom, and How

Course Description

This is a recorded session from the SGIM 2024 Annual Meeting in Boston.

This session provides an overview of how SGIM members can engage in health policy advocacy within their states.  Presenters will share stories of successful models of state-level advocacy in health policy and provide pearls for fruitful engagement with state-level policy-makers.  You will learn to identify who in your state executive and legislative branches can assist you in your state-level advocacy.  You will also learn strategies for engaging state level government officials in your advocacy efforts.


Learning Objectives
  1. Identify state executive branch members that might assist you with state-level advocacy
  2. Identify leaders in population health at academic medical centers that might assist you with state-level advocacy
  3. Develop strategies for approaching state government officials and population health leaders with the goal of supporting your advocacy efforts
  4. Discuss how to nurture ongoing collaborations with state government officials and population health leaders
