This is a recorded session from the SGIM 2025 Annual Meeting in Florida.
Health equity ensures that all people have a fair opportunity to achieve their highest level of health, regardless of race, sexual orientation, gender identity, ethnicity, disability, or socioeconomic status. Behavioral health integration may mitigate health inequities by reducing barriers to patient access to behavioral health, limiting stigma and cultural concerns, and affording financial advantages to patients. Presenters will discuss ways to understand, anticipate, and address stigma, as behavioral health concepts become more routine in our patients’ primary care, including how we describe and promote services with patients.
- Describe three key models of behavioral health integration and core principles of the model of behavioral health, and identify solutions to common barriers
- Identify at least four health inequities that may be addressed through behavioral health integration
- Identify several key barriers that may prevent patients from accessing integrated behavioral health within your practice, and targeted solutions and resources to help prevent these barriers
