This is a recorded session from the SGIM 2025 Annual Meeting in Florida.
Two decades after the release of “Unequal Treatment,” racial and ethnic inequities in health care persist despite significant changes in health care organization, education, and policy. This symposium will move beyond describing racial and ethnic health disparities, and focus instead of reviewing our collective action in advancing health equity, while also proposing strategies to catalyze the necessary change. This session is co-sponsored by the National Institute on Minority Health and Health Disparities.
- Examine and critically assess the ongoing factors contributing to racial and ethnic inequities in health care as identified in “Ending Unequal Treatment”
- Appraise interventions aimed at reducing health care disparities and the gaps in the current evidence-base that needs to be addressed to promote equitable health care
- Identify actionable strategies and develop policy recommendations to advance health equity
