Introduction to Bottom Line Project: Evidence Summaries

The Bottom Line Project: Evidence Summaries; a product of the SGIM EBM Task Force - An overview:

The Bottom Line evidence summaries are single page tools designed to distill current, high impact research findings for health care providers, in order to facilitate patient discussions. Each summary addresses new evidence relevant to general internal medicine which has been covered in the media and which may impact patient care. Each summary visually presents key information about the potential benefits and harms of a test or treatment along with a clinical “bottom line” recommendation. Summaries will include visual representations of numerical data based on current best practices. The summaries are designed to foster clearer and more accurate communication between patients and their doctors, while enhancing patient understanding and satisfaction.

The Bottom Line summaries are produced by the SGIM EBM Task Force, a group of general internal medicine physicians who are expert in interpreting and understanding clinical trial evidence. The summaries focus on the results of a single study and are not intended to be full topic reviews.
