All SGIM publications became digital-only in 2020.

In an effort to reduce our carbon footprint, our premier publication, the Journal of General Internal Medicine (JGIM), is now  available digital-only as of January 2020. SGIM Forum and ACLGIM Leadership Forum are also available digital-only.

Why will JGIM be available only online?

SGIM is taking steps to reduce its carbon footprint in response to our members’ encouragement. By going digital we’ll significantly cut our use of paper and our carbon footprint. The tens of thousands of dollars we save on printing and postage will be invested into other programs and opportunities for you, our members. And now, there’s no waiting for publications to arrive in the mail—you can quickly access them online right when they’re published!

How will I access JGIM from inside of my institution?

When the latest issue of JGIM is available, you will receive an electronic table of contents (ETOC) alerting you. If you are logged in as a member of your home institution, and that institution subscribes independently to JGIM (most of them do!), you should experience seamless access to JGIM articles.  Simply click on the article you wish to view and read or download for your use.

How will I access JGIM from outside of my institution?

When the latest issue of JGIM is available, you will receive an electronic table of contents (ETOC) alerting you. If you are NOT logged into your home institution, or your institution does not subscribve to JGIM, you must log into your SGIM account.  Rather than clicking directly on the links in that email, go directly to the SGIM website and log in to your account, then click on the ETOC. Click on the JGIM tab aon the right hand side (not at the top!) of your member account page to read the journal.

What about other SGIM publications?

SGIM Forum and ACLGIM Leadership Forum are always available on their respective websites, under the Publications pages. Starting in 2020, we will no longer be mailing print versions, and they will continue to be available online as downloadable PDFs.

I'm still having trouble!

Unfortunately, sometimes institutions use their firewall to block access to publications like JGIM.  If you are a member, have tried the steps above without success, and are still being asked to pay for JGIM articles - please contact Francine Jetton, Director of Communications, at jettonf@sgim.org.
