Geriatrics Task Force

Welcome to the SGIM Geriatrics Task Force main page. Since its inception, this group has focused its efforts on developing educational products and recommendations for the education of medical residents who are learning geriatrics.

This site is designed for physicians but may also be useful to other healthcare professionals. The purpose of this Web site is to develop and disseminate information about geriatrics educational products for clinician-educators, particularly those in internal medicine and family practice. Our ultimate goal is to improve the education of medical students, residents, and fellows who are learning about geriatric medicine. This Web site can be used for longitudinal growth and career development of educators who teach residents about geriatric medicine, and this may be an efficient way to disseminate educational materials and avoid redundancy of users' time and resources. The Web site may also be a forum for collegial exchange among clinician-educators. We also hope that this site will foster ongoing interest in our Geriatric Task Force.

Task Force Goals

The SGIM Geriatrics Task Force was created in 2006. Its members work to achieve the following goals:

  1. Facilitate access and implementation of current activities within SGIM related to geriatrics by members.
  2. Coordinate activities between SGIM and other organizations active in geriatrics clinical care, education, and research, especially the Alliance for Academic Internal Medicine (AAIM), the American Geriatrics Society (AGS), and the Society of Hospital Medicine (SHM).
  3. Design, fund, and implement new projects that focus on improving clinical care and education related to geriatrics.
  4. Facilitate career development of SGIM members.
