We are pleased to announce that the 2009 SGIM Midwest Regional Meeting will take place on Thursday-Friday, September 17-18, 2009 at The Gleacher Center in Chicago, IL.

In keeping with the important role envisioned for General Internal Medicine in reformed healthcare system, the theme of the meeting is “General Internal Medicine Leadership in the 21st Century.” We look forward to clinical, educational and research submissions relevant to general internal medicine training and practice in both inpatient and outpatient settings. 

Our featured speaker is Barbara Starfield, M.D. The title of her planned keynote address is "The Place of Primary Care in Healthcare Reform" 

The meeting will also feature a panel addressing the appropriate roles of Primary Care and General Internal Medicine in a reformed healthcare system and the challenges of defining that role. 

This year’s SGIM Midwest Regional Meeting will include:

• Sessions for oral and poster presentations of clinical vignettes, innovations and research
• Clinically oriented workshops
• Real time feedback to poster presenters from experienced regional faculty.
• Special VA research symposium
• Rapid Advising Roundtable mentoring opportunity - feedback from a team of experienced academic general internists.
• Awards for Midwest Clinician Educator, Leader in GIM and the fourth annual “Advocacy and Community Service Award.” 
• We hope you will make plans to come to the meeting! The Regional Meeting gives us an opportunity to present our work, form relationships, and learn together in a fun and collegial setting. It is also a very important forum for residents and other trainees to present their work, learn about General Internal Medicine, and most importantly, to experience the wonderful world of SGIM by meeting and interacting with you.
