EBM

The Society of General Internal Medicine has fostered the growth of the Evidence-Based Medicine (EBM) movement through workshops at its national and regional meetings and through the support of interest groups and task forces related to EBM.  In 2009-2010 the EBM task force is dedicated to the following goals:

  • Continue improvement of EBM Website, including the addition of new downloadable resources.
  • Develop EBM Resources Classification Framework, including a manuscript as part of the process of developing a classification instrument for EBM resources.
  • Develop Online EBM Curriculum
  • Provide Resources for Instructors to evaluate their EBM Programs
  • Submit an abstract to the national meeting on the topic of EBM and considering writing a paper

EBM TASK FORCE IS LOOKING FOR NEW MEMBERS

The SGIM Evidence-Based Medicine (EBM) Task Force (TF) is looking for nominations for candidates for two full members for a three year term from May 2010-May 2013 and one associate member position serving on the TF for a two year terms from May 2010 – May 2012. If you are interested in joining the TF, please send us the following information by February 22, 2010:

1. Current Curriculum Vitae

2. Brief (about 1 – 2 paragraphs) description of your interest and experience in EBM

3. Brief (about 1 – 2 paragraphs) on what you think you could bring to the TF and what you would like to accomplish as a TF member.

Applicants must be current SGIM Members or Associate Members. Previous TF members who have not been members during the past 2 years are also eligible to apply.

All applications will be reviewed by the current TF members. To best serve the SGIM Membership, we are looking for candidates with substantial experience in practicing and teaching EBM and who have demonstrated the capacity to bring projects to completion. We are seeking members with diverse interests in the broad field of EBM, including those interested in using informatics to integrate evidence into practice. We encourage applications from Members and Associate Members from every geographic region and from all personal and professional backgrounds.

What does the EBM Task Force do? Our goals are to: 1) Educate SGIM members and related groups in EBM concepts via presentations and workshops at regional and national meetings, 2) Serve as a resource to the SGIM Council and Membership in answering questions related to EBM practice, principles and education via EBM related publications, teaching updates and workshops and 3) Enhance the understanding of how best to facilitate the translation of evidence into practice at both the institutional and individual level.

What is involved in being a TF member? In general, we have conference calls at least once a month and meet face-to-face 1-2 times per year. Some of our past activities include: teaching EBM courses at SGIM meetings; teaching EBM courses in other forums including ACP workshops and courses for CAM providers; conducting research on various aspects of EBM; presenting at national meetings; writing manuscripts; and obtaining grant funding for TF activities. Being on the TF is fun and worthwhile, and is an excellent way to network with others interested in EBM.

All application materials should be sent to:
