SGIM TEACH
The TEACH certificate program is designed to address the needs of junior clinician educators. Developed by the SGIM Education Committee, the program focuses on teaching skills and offers quality instruction and assessment with tangible outcomes. Participants will leave the program with an interactive teaching portfolio to document their teaching performance and feedback obtained, as well as reflections on strengths and weaknesses. Participation in the program also provides learners life-long access to a community of medical educators. The TEACH Certificate is affordable, accessible, and can be completed in just one year.
Who Should apply
The program is tailored for:
- Junior clinician educators embarking on their teaching roles.
- New faculty seeking to strengthen their educational expertise.
- Experienced clinicians pivoting to include teaching in their professional portfolio.
Hospitalists and outpatient general internists are particularly encouraged to apply. To ensure the full benefit of the program, participants must attend the SGIM Annual Meeting.
SGIM continues its journey to becoming an anti-racist society committed to promoting and championing diversity, equity, and inclusion as a strategic priority. A diverse panel of reviewers will give all applicants equal consideration.
Program Highlights
- A mandatory full-day core content session during the first year.
- Three hours of elective content distributed over two SGIM Annual Meetings.
- A blend of independent and online studies, including direct observations and the development of an ePortfolio.
- Access to an ongoing online educational forum.
- Special networking events, including a Welcome Reception in the first year and a Certificate Reception in the second year, allowing participants to forge connections with alums and peers.

This is the first and only national program I have been a part of and I cannot say enough great things. As a junior faculty clinician educator, the monthly discussion topics were timely and applicable. The workshops at the SGIM meetings were outstanding and I frequently reference content I learned during those sessions. The connections with my TEACH mentor and colleagues were invaluable.
