Quality and Patient Safety Subcommittee

The Quality and Patient Safety Subcommittee's mission is to promote and disseminate scholarly activities in quality and patient safety work and to facilitate training for Society members involved in quality and safety improvement activities.

  • Promote, disseminate and recognize scholarly activities in quality and patient safety.
  • Facilitate training in quality and patient safety for Society members through an annual precourse on quality improvement and patient safety.
  • Support and foster the retention and academic promotion of Society members who devote their efforts to quality improvement and patient safety

2017-2018 Initiatives include:

  1. Facilitate networking and resource sharing around quality challenges through the use of technology - GIM Connect, interest group communities and the SGIM website.
  2. Foster involvement of students, residents and fellows at regional meetings
  3. Collaborate with the BRL in the establishment of regional awards to recognize trainee work in Quality and Patient Safety
  4.  Work with SGIM Forum editorial team on series of articles on quality and safety topics

Additional Quality and Patient Safety Resources

Quality and Patient Safety One-day Course - full-day course that introduces the Model for Improvement, a structured approach to improving processes that incorporates the PDSA (Plan-Do-Study-Act) cycle, along with Reliable Design principles.
